    C1` 59: Scoring

What kind of scoring could my car in theory get if it was in perfect condition but having the wrong engine, shifter and rear axle ? Let's say that all the bits surrounding the engine are correct (e.g. carburator, distributor, thermostate housing, etc.).

I'm just wondering if I would ever been able to qualify for any award without the huge cost of getting these last bits right...

If time permits, order a 1958 Judging Manual from NCRS. It will help you determine an estimate of where your car would fall in the scoring system.

      Re: C1` 59: Scoring

If you want to deal in theory, then theoretically you could still end up with a top flight award. This is on the assumption that the remainder of the car is in perfect condition as you stated, and by 'perfect' you mean exactly the condition it was in when it left the factory. The standard for judging is no better, no worse.

The deductions for the known non-original parts could be offset by other credits, as detailed in the manuals

Most likely (in reality) your car would qualify for a second or possibly third flight, as there will probably be other deviations from original, some you may not even be aware of. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with any NCRS award!

If you're now confused as to how the judging system works, don't feel bad. The recent strings here about the 'need' to invent new judging classes, or re-invent the NCRS because 'it must be broken' have done more harm than good (in my mind) as it's simply thrown a lot of false information out into the field. The system, if you or the gents who stirred up the pot were to learn, is really quite simple and easy to follow.

As already suggested, you're best off getting the manuals on this subject to learn the REAL story.

Just ordered all Judging related the books for 59 cars, maybe I'll try to become the first official NCRS certified judge of the Netherlands (allthough thats probably not possible since the NCRS is unfortunately a National society) !!!

          Mike,

Thanks for your respond. Currently my car is not in a completely mint condition but since I got it since last September I make real progress. I'm looking forward to the judging books allthough replacing the missing bits by originals is sometimes hard since they are often difficult to find when you are looking from this side of the Ocean. The NCRS is a big help for me together with some help from the Corvette part sellers, the big Nolan Adams himself and a lot of books and websites I've visited. I must admit what would really help is having a look into a number of well restored cars but till today I haven't found any nearby. Maybe I should take advantage of the current dollar exchange rate (today at a historicly low 1.22 against the euro !!!) and visit one of the next NCRS gatherings in the states (especially when it hits the East Coast, since this is much more payable than the West coast).

          greetings,
          Rob.

            Rob,

There is an active chapter in Great Britan. It would be a less expensive trip.
